Character Profile: Marissa

I am trying to get a decent amount of writing done for my story, my post on Ashely's blog has got me working a little extra hard to try and make some progress. So as a treat here is the first of my character profiles on the characters from my Archangel book. Marissa is the first main character I created for this story and yes she is based a little on me. This is her character profile for book 1 because I can't give everything away yet. Enjoy!

Marissa Emera West: Daughter of Archangel Uriel

Nicknames: Riss, Rissy (Eli)

Title: The Leader of the group

Powers: Power over water, ability to see the best in people and forgive them, telekinetic

Weapon: Knives

Special Skills: Her power over water combined with her father’s dominion over thunder have given Marissa the ability to cause it to rain when she is upset.

Physical Appearance: Five foot two inches tall with a curvy body type, and pale skin. Marissa wears glasses for reading and writing after spending years straining her eyes looking at the pages of books. She has dark brown hair that has a red tint to it in the sunlight, and usually keeps her hair cut shorter. Had long hair as a child but after high school she chopped it off and it only got shorter and shorter; her first semester of college it was in a very edgy cut that only reached her jawbones. She has always been a full-figured girl and hasn’t gotten very much romantic attention because of it. Her height and weight are her biggest insecurities but she has learned how to have confidence in her looks anyway. Her favorite features are her deep, multifaceted green eyes; everyone has always told her they are her best attribute after her bright smile and contagious laugh.

Personality: Marissa’s Zodiac sign is Aquarius, and she is a textbook example of one; weird, quirky, with a deep want to change the world. She is friendly and humanitarian, honest and loyal, original and inventive, independent and intellectual. But on the darker side Marissa is also very emotional, easily hurt, and when angered, she can be seriously rude; alternating between deafening silence and sudden outbursts of temper...and boy does she have a temper when pushed Marissa is very headstrong, stubborn and sure of herself, but not in a cocky way. She has always taken the lead in anything she does so when she was called upon to be the group’s leader she didn’t think twice about it.

   When she was younger, before her mother left, Marissa was very quiet and hid behind her mother and her brother a lot. Then after Trista left her children, Marissa learned how to speak up and hasn’t stopped since. She is very loud, opinionated, and not afraid to speak her mind even if it might make her some enemies. She has a very quick wit but always tries to think at least a little before she speaks. Another flaw of Marissa is that she trusts a little too easily and will forgive anyone no matter their offenses against her. Even if someone has deeply hurt her she would forgive them again and let them back into her life. Marissa takes most people and situations at face value and sometimes that can cause her a little trouble.

    Marissa is the bookworm of the group and an English Literature Major; very content to sit in a bookstore or a library all day and read, write or even research. She is a straight A student who schoolwork has always come very easily too. When she was in high school she had a few of her essays, short stories and even poems published which is where she got some money for school from, along with scholarships from writing. Marissa has a wonderful singing voice, and stage presence but found out when she was thirteen that she has crippling stage fright, and can only perform in front of people she is comfortable with which limits her to performing at her brother’s club where everyone loves her.

 Relationships

 Eli West: When asked who the most important person in her life is Marissa wouldn’t even have to think twice before answering. Her older brother Eli has been the parent figure in Marissa’s life since she was 11 and Trista Norris left her children to jet around the world as a fashion photographer. Since then Marissa and Eli have been living together in their childhood home while Eli continues to run his successful gay club. Eli is only Marissa’s half-brother but the two were never raised that way, in fact Marissa didn’t find out until she was 18 that she and Eli were only half siblings. Eli is the person Marissa trusts the most mostly because for awhile it was the two siblings against the world. Eli and Marissa are very similar when it comes to personality, both loud, outspoken extroverts but Eli doesn’t have the ability to trust as easily as his sister does. He is very overprotective of Marissa to the point that he can be a bit clingy but Marissa would do anything for him as he would do for her.

Lily: Lily and Marissa have been best friends since middle school where they met not long after Lily moved to Maryland. They first bonded over their lack of parents; neither had known their fathers and Lily’s mother died when she was very young. Lily is very close to Marissa and her whole family. Eli considers Lily to be his younger sister as well and when Trista is home Lily is like a daughter to her. Lily and Marissa are quite opposite of each other, Lily is more quiet and withdrawn than her best friend, until she is surrounded by people she knows or is in a situation she is comfortable with. Marissa has always been the tutor to Lily as her best friend is not the student Marissa is. The girls act to each other like the mother that they both crave so much. Like any other friends they fight but it is rare and when they do they make up almost immediately because within a few hours they already have something new that they need to tell the other.

Penny: Marissa liked Penny from the moment the two met but at the same time sometimes the girls butt heads. Penny is everything that Marissa always wanted to be; thin, pretty, the center of attention, every man’s fantasy and as much as Marissa wants to say it doesn’t bother her it does. Over all she and Penny become very close friends but a lot of the time Marissa plays referee between Penny and Lily who go through stages of liking and hating each other. Penny looks up to Marissa because while she might have the looks Marissa has the confidence that Penny still lacks. Penny and Marissa are similar when it comes to their emotional personalities simply because both of them are very self aware people and willing to acknowledge their emotions unlike Lily and Z.J. who try to deny there’s more often than not.

Z.J.: After Lily, Marissa is probably closest to Z.J. She was the first person ever to get Z.J. to open up about his past and some of his fears or short comings. Marissa saw Z.J. as a shy young man who needed some friends so she decides to take him under her wing. Marissa is also the one who shields Z.J. from most of the good natured ribbing that he gets from Penny and Lily she admires his innocence and naiveté because it means he is less jaded then the rest of them. Marissa also finds it very easy to talk to Z.J. and can tell him things that she isn’t comfortable telling Penny or even Lily. Z.J. is also the least judgmental of the four so when Marissa does something that Lily or Penny might not like it is usually the only male of the four who will back Marissa up.

Trista West: To say Marissa’s relationship with her mother is strained would be the understatement of the century. Before Trista left her children to further her career Marissa was her mother’s little girl but being abandoned turned Marissa cold to her mother. Trista never intended to hurt either of her children but she felt that they both would do better without her. Trista also left because the pain of seeing her daughter became too much for her. After Marissa’s difficult birth Trista was left with a cesarean scar that pained her whenever she set eyes on her daughter so she left mostly for her own comfort. When Marissa found that out she was torn in two not knowing whether to feel guilty that the simple sight of her caused her mother pain or anger that her own mother couldn’t put up with it for her children. Marissa hasn’t actually seen her mother for over a year but they keep in touch via email and telephone. Most of the time it isn’t enough for Marissa and all of her mother’s pretty words and broken promises fall on deaf ears. Marissa’s greatest wish is that one day her relationship with her mother will be what it should be.

From A Future Chapter of Me and Emily

Hey readers, since I wasn't happy with my last chapter I figured I would give you all a taste of the trial!

Me and Emily Excerpt: The trial

Ginny watched as Uriel walked calmly into the room and took a seat on a chair next to Kingsley.

The redhead chanced a glance at Harry, whose mouth was hanging open in shock. She looked at Draco who still had his features schooled to look relaxed and impenetrable. He gave her a small smile, and squeezed her hand. He knew exactly what was going to happen when Blaise began to ask Uri his questions, and Ginny also knew he was as worried about his sisters well being as she was.

Kingsley called the court to order and Blaise spoke.

“Will you please state your name for the council madam?”

“Allegra VanAlan, adopted daughter of Claude and Annette VanAlan, French Muggles.” Uriel responded knowing exactly the game that was being played.

“Will you please state your full name for the council?” Blaise asked, bracing himself for her next words.

The Blonde smiled.

“Uriel Allegra VanAlan…Malfoy.” She stated just as calmly hearing the sharp gasps from all present. “I am the eldest daughter of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, elder sister to Draco Malfoy.”

Blaise held up a file and presented it to the court. “This is a signed testimony from Narcissa Malfoy that Uriel is her eldest child. I also have her original birth certificate and the other Malfoy papers that profess her the eldest Malfoy heir.”

“You lying bitch of a whore!” Harry shouted rising from his chair and rushing toward her. “I’ll teach you to mess with Harry Potter you filthy Malfoy slut!”

Draco was on his feet in a flash, and Blaise had placed himself between Potter and Uriel, but before either of them had to do a thing Kingsley raised his wand and Harry was back in his chair and restrained with the thick heavy chains used for the normal prisoners. The papers were passed around the council, and finally to Kingsley, for moments the court was silent.

“Well I’ll be damned,” Kingsley finally spoke. “All these years, there has been another Malfoy. Ms. Van Alan here is really the first born Malfoy child.”

Blaise spoke again. “I know that this is a big deal Minister, but remember why we are here.”

Kingsley closed the file. “Proceed Mr. Zabini.”

“Ms. Malfoy, will you please tell us how you met and about your relationship with Ms. Ginevra Weasley-Potter?”

“I met Ginny through my brother Draco Malfoy. He had been telling me about her since he was still in school, but I did not meet her until a few months ago. I came to Malfoy Manor from France to stay with my brother. I found out that Ginny was staying there because her husband had been beating her. She and I formed a close friendship and I offered to help her in any way possible.”

“Yea and that included lying to me and making me think you were someone your not!” Harry yelled straining against the chains.

“You make the whole world think your someone your not!” Ginny yelled getting to her feet.

Draco pulled Ginny back down by the hand, and she avoided Harry’s eyes no matter what. This was going to be a long, long day.

A Favorite Poem I wrote

I wrote this poem, it was inspired by a time in my life that I went through some really tough stuff with my mother.

Mommy, Why?

What did I do wrong here? Mommy please tell me why.

I didn't mean to make you angry; did you mean to make me cry?

If dad were not at work now would you still throw me against the wall?

Still yell and call me worthless, but pretend "all's well" when daddy calls?

Mommy, please help me up now, you threw me down the stairs,

but you're supposed to protect me, listen to my thoughts and wants and cares.

Please don't stand above me and look down like I have no worth,

your dark silhouette looms over me, like a demon not of this Earth.

Daddy doesn't see it, he's afraid of you just like me,

my brother stays away now, doesn't want to hear my cries or pleas.

Mommy my friends are worried, they all hate you can't you see?

They all want me to stay with them now, to keep you away from me.

I sit in a stuffy office where my teacher begged me to go,

I confess, and tell and cry but so far there is no crime to show.

Then purple-blue angry bruises appear on my fair skin,

my friends all point and ask while my lies hide your awful sin.

A man comes with a camera, takes shots of my front and side to side,

we sit on the porch as the bloody sun sets and I tell all you've made me hide.

Mommy, I'm sorry that the social worker came,

I don't want to get you in trouble, but you're the one to blame.

I'm scared to be in my own home, make a wrong move or word or sound,

I never know what rolls off your back or what lands me on the ground.

Mommy why is it my fault? I don't slap myself across the face,

you told your therapist a bunch of lies, now social services dropped my case.

A few years pass, fast-forward I'm eighteen now mommy see?

And now I've told you I'll call the cops if you raise a hand to me.

Still the insults continue, each one like a smack or shove,

"pig" ,"fat", "worthless", "stupid", Mommy all I crave is your love.

Now once a week on Wednesdays I sit in a comfy and secure chair,

You now make me go to therapy because I have "too much to bear."

My therapist says inside is a little twelve year old me,

she's still looking for your love and approval, something she'll never see.

Mother I've finally realized, there is nothing I can do,

nothing I can clean or make, not a thing will ever please you.

Mother we've reached a turning point, I've locked the door and lost the key,

one day I'll leave and never look back, Mommy you're dead to me.

A Blurb From My Untitled Archangel Story: Book 2

Okay, so because my brain can't get off my book 2 in my Archangel stories I am going to post my little blurb that won't leave my head right now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I looked at my best friend who had just walked through the door.
"Lily?"
"I think so," she replied. "But who the hell was that?"
I looked back to ask the girl, but she had dove out of the first story window.
"I don't know," I said getting to my feet. "But we are going to find out. Come on."
Lily and I took off at a run, out of the house and in the direction we saw the doppelganger go. As we ran I saw a familiar car driving in the direction of our house..
"Cavan!" I yelled running out in front of his car. "Help us."
My boyfriend stumbled out of the car. "Lena, what's wrong?"
"Get in the car I'll explain on the way."
Caven went to get back in the driver's seat.
"Caven," he looked up at me. "No, no, my love. I will drive."
"Elena, really?"
"What part of mother dated a Nascar driver don't you get Cav? Now give me the keys."
He knew better than to argue and tossed me his keys. I slipped in the driver's side while he got in the front seat and Lily got in back. Right as I was about to take off a silver car cut me off and I slammed on the breaks.
"That girl in the front seat looks just like Lily." Cavan said pointing out of the window.
I watched in shock as a male student went running after the car yelling that she had stolen it.
"Well apparently your doppelganger knows how to hot wire cars Lil."
"Stay on her tail El." Lily said a second before I took off.
We sped off, darting down side streets, and trying to keep the silver car in our sights. When it finally turned down a side street we followed. I was afraid that we would lose the car, they were about to turn out at the other end when a car came out of no where and T-Boned it.
I slammed on the breaks once again to prevent a further accident, and without even having to say anything Lily, and Cavan jumped out of the car and started to pursue her on foot. She had climbed out of the car and was running away from us on foot.
"Lily, go make sure that the passenger in the car is okay, Lena and I will catch her." Cavan yelled, as Lily approached the car.
"Elena we need to split up," he said easily keeping pace with my Archangel speed, which made me wonder, but then I remembered that the adrenaline was probably pumping through his body and making him faster. "You go north, I'm going to go south and cut her off."
"Right," I said running a little faster. "Lily catch up as soon as you can."
I took off down a side alley and stopped. I stood still for a moment or two and just listened, I sent a simultaneous thank you and prayer to my father. I asked him to help me catch her, and thanked him for my Archangel senses. I became silent again, and listened, far off, closer to where Cavan probably was I heard the sound of someone running on pavement. I took off in the direction that they were coming from as fast as I could. Before I had taken ten steps I heard Cavan cry out in pain, my speed increased and out of the corner of my eye I saw Lily running toward me. She must have heard him cry out as well. We reached where I heard my boyfriend writhing in pain to find him sprawled out on the ground blood pouring from a cut in his stomach.
"Oh god," Lily exclaimed, as I dropped my knees beside him. "We have to get him back to J.P. now."
"Hold on Cav, we'll get you back to the car, and be back to our house before you know it." I slung one of his arms around my neck, and Lily slug the other around her neck. Slowly we walked him back to the car, and I got into the car and drove off. We still had no idea who Lily's mysterious doppelganger was, or more importantly, what she wanted.
